The German Design Award is the German Design Council’s premier international prize. Awards are given to high-quality products and projects from the product and communication design sectors, design personalities and newcomers, all of which are pioneering in the German and international design landscape. The aim of the German Design Award is to discover, present and award unique design trends.
ophelis docks Receives the German Design Award Special Mention
ophelis docks was nominated for the German Design Award in the Office category for Excellent Product Design, and received a Special Mention distinction.
Those nominated for the German Design Award show outstanding design competence. One nomination is all it takes for the opportunity to take part in the competition and compete against the best the design scene has to offer. As a result, simply taking part in the German Design Award is an accolade in itself for companies and designers. Responsible for the nominations are renowned design experts of the German Design Council – they know great potential when they see it.
Special Mention – This award honours designs which show particularly successful aspects or solutions – an accolade which awards the commitment of companies and designers.
ophelis docks is a modular furniture system for configuring islands in an office environment. Blocks of 90 x 90 centimetres form the basis on which the entire system is built. The various upholstery modules, shelves and tables in lounging, sitting or standing height form a design vocabulary which can be recombined as desired, whilst dividers provide acoustic and visual privacy. The individual modules can be joined together in chains, whilst add-on surfaces allow accessories to be incorporated. All of the elements can be connected to the power supply. ophelis docks is predestined to fulfil the demands for the designing of modern, future-proof working environments. The whole concept for the product was created by Till Grosch and Björn Meier, the young designer duo from Berlin.
German Design Council
The German Design Council is the German authority for brands and design. Its mission is to represent the German design world. Established in 1953 as a foundation on the initiative of the German parliament, it supports the economy in systematically generating added value of brands through design. The German Design Council has become one of the world’s leading centres of competence for communication and branding in the design sector.
Since its premiere in 2012, the German Design Award has grown rapidly: back then, around 1,500 entrants were presented to the jury. This year there were 2,250.
Jury
The jury of the German Design Award 2015 consists of design connoisseurs from various fields. These include experts in economics, teaching, science and the design industry, and are recognised authorities in their respective fields.

Ergonomics, functionality, ease of use, practical value, overall concept, design quality, innovativeness, durability, brand and brand value, readiness for market, environmental compatibility, environmental quality, product aesthetics, product graphics, product meaning, safety, accessibility, symbolic and emotional content, technical quality, technical functionality, manufacturing technique and manufacturing quality.
